Food of the Romantics

February 21st, 2015

In Austen’s brilliant classic Pride and Prejudice, Mr. Darcy had commented that he considered poetry to be the food for love. Modern lovers may scorn at this fanciful notion, but almost every one of them would agree on the fact that chocolate is the universal choice when it comes to expressing sweet feelings! Chocolate cakes, candies, baskets, hampers – you name it and they are popular. You can easily get chocolates delivered in UK thanks to a large number of stores, which stock a wide variety of chocolates and their dishes. But why just stick to plain ol’ chocolates? Why not experiment with chocolates with some interesting fillings?! Here are some filling options that you may want to consider:

  • Brown sugar butter cream  – A perfect combination of creaming butter and brown sugar, this is one filling that is soft to taste and melts instantly when put in the mouth! Chocolates with a stuffing of this are bound to taste delicious. This would be the perfect complement to both dark and milky chocolates and are irresistibly light on one’s palette.

  • Rum raisin nougat – Who can resist this wonderful combination of liqueur and dry fruits with the delicious treat from France, nougat?! With soft nougat mixed with a little bit of rum and raisins, you get a bite in the chocolate that you wouldn’t expect from a plain bar of chocolate. Made out of egg whites and honey, the nougat would be soft and form a perfectly gooey filling for your bar or bob of chocolate.

  • Marzipan – A favourite in wedding cakes, marzipan can be used with a number of ingredients, chocolate being just one among them. A filling made out of almond meal (sweetened ground almonds) and a sweetener such as sugar or honey, this can be had on its own or can be the ultra-sweet filling for dark chocolates. Marzipan can also be mixed with edible food colours to get them in various tinges so you can experiment with green, red, pink or brown hued chocolate marzipan fillings.

  • Ganache – A filling of chocolate inside chocolate? Ganache is prepared by pouring extremely hot cream over chocolate of any sort. The mixture then created must be blended/beaten very well to get a fine filling. You can also include fruit or nut extracts and various types of liqueurs to Ganache to make them more delicious. Some people go the extra mile and also add a dollop of butter and thus, you get really smooth, silky and shiny Ganache filling for your chocolate!

  • Raspberry Cream – Quite a few people would be craving a box of chocolates of any sort after reading about the chocolates and their fillings so far! But, if you are looking for a lighter and fruity filling to the heavier flavour of chocolate, you should try chocolates with raspberry cream fillings. Their acidic flavour, pretty pink shade combined with a hint of vanilla and finely crushed raspberries in fluffy cream are heavenly delights that will only enhance the magic of the chocolate it is put in.

So get creative with the traditional tasty delight – chocolate – by experimenting with these and many other types of fillings that you will find in the market. Coconut, buttercream with apricot or mocha, peanut butter, peppermint – the list is endless as should be your quest for new flavours in chocolate!

Imagine having a lovely party that has a host of well-dressed people sipping on the finest of wines and wearing the most gorgeous outfits. The picture however would be barren without a few choice flower arrangements thrown in. Flowers have traditionally been used to decorate the venue for almost every occasion and their participants. Whether you are planning a baby shower or you are planning a bachelorette party in a pub, adding a dash of colours in bowls and vases is always preferable. With the help of online flowers delivery, you can now ensure you never have to scramble around to get these beautiful gifts of nature to liven up your get-togethers.

Here are some things that you should keep in mind though when you are selecting the flowers to be delivered:

  • Choose a delivery company that has some amount of experience in this field. Flowers are delicate objects and must be handled with a lot of care and sensitivity. Handing them over in callous hands means damages to the flowers and waste of your money. A company that has been delivering flowers for a while will know exactly how the flowers must be handled, wrapped and delivered without causing any harm to the arrangement or the flowers.

  • Keep in mind the person you are sending the flowers to. Some of them may like dark hued flowers such as deep red roses or purple tulips. Some others may prefer light and summery flowers such as daffodils or blooming roses in pastel shades. Choose a flower arrangement that you find attractive and which you know will also leave a favourable impression on the recipient. Another thing you should bear in mind is that some people are allergic to certain varieties of flowers or leaves. Be sure to exclude them from your choice of gift and avert a medical emergency!

  • Seasonal flowers are the best to select from. Some flowers are available during any time of the year whereas some of them are highly seasonal. Flowers in bloom in their respective seasons are visual delights because they will be blooming in all their charm. Also, knowing which flowers are available in what season will help you keep your expectations from the delivery company realistic.

  • Choose a flower arrangement that makes it convenient for the flowers to be delivered. Complex flower arrangements look good in a party when they are stationary in one spot. Wrapped and en route to far away destinations however, all flowers will not be able to stay fresh in such complex arrangements. Wrapping them also becomes an ordeal in itself. Once unwrapped, let the beauty of the flowers shine through in their simple setting that will let the recipient easily enjoy their beauty.

  • When you are sending flowers to another destination, make sure you choose flowers according to the amount of time they will have to travel – sturdier flowers can shipped to places further than to those to which delicate ones are sent.

Add beauty to your flowers arrangements with leaves, wreaths of small flowers, decorative baskets and vases and their trimming such as pearls, satin ribbons and big red bows and there, you have your perfect gift!

Flowers have traditionally been gifted on both formal and friendly occasions. And you can easily send cheap hamper in UK because spring is just around the corner! So if you are planning to go the floral route while selecting your gifts, here are some fantastic ideas for you to make them look more colourful and cheery. A radiant selection of flowers will surely bring a smile on the face of your recipient, no matter what the gender or the age!

The blue brew – It is said that blue is the favourite colour of most people all around the world. A colour available in different shades, its flowers can be easily found in farms and fields. Include stalks of Monkshood in your hamper with exquisite contours or experiment with not-so-traditional flowers such as the Sea Holly. Sea Hollies have an elliptical centre with petals fanning out in the form of spikes to give it a very striking look. Other traditional blue flowers include Hyacinths, Hydrangeas and Delphiniums.

A fruity burst – Orange is a very cheery colour with a ponderous soul. While blues and lavenders talk about calmness, orange speaks about vibrancy. So experiment with some orange blossoms or buds in your hamper by selecting from snapdragons that have a marvellously full appearance or calendulas that look just too fresh and open for words! You can also find lilies, tulips and zinnias in this shade and they all look beautiful when put together with flowers of other shapes and colours.

A shade of pink – Most women and children cannot resist this cute shade! While some people are fond of them in their childhood, some of them are fans of this colour all their lives! Pink is definitely a popular shade in terms of hampers and bouquets too as they add a soft charm to the entire arrangement. So if you have an overall arrangement of edgy and spiky flowers, temper its tone by adding a few pink wind flowers that are simple and sweet to look at, tightly furled pale pink rose buds that need no words to describe its innocence or humble pink cornflowers that have an appealingly fuzzy appearance.

Green, and not just the leaves! – Now here’s an option that you have never heard of before! We all know that a collection of flowers on a bed of leaves or stalks of attractively shaped leaves look very beautiful. But what if you don’t want to include leaves but still want a breath of minty freshness in your hamper? Then you should cast your eye over these green flowers that just might be your answer. Bells of Irelands with their wide petals and white centres, pistachio green tulips, green hydrangeas and carnations are some of the prime examples in this category.
