Gifts And Their Importance

July 3rd, 2018

Gifts are an integral part of our lives. We all love to receive gifts, at the same time when we gift something to others that gives us an internal pleasure and satisfaction, by making others happy. Gifts are loved by people from all age groups, as a gift is associated with getting rewarded for something and being human beings we love to be rewarded, to feel cared, and to feel special. A child understands that he/she is being rewarded since the time he/she is born. Thus this instinct is an inborn instinct, which stays with us throughout our life.

Gift Market

Since gifts are so closely related to us, there are manufacturers present in the market, who manufacture only gift items and that is their only source of revenue. Can we just imagine the market size, which operates only by studying the gifting nature of people, and the importance attached to it? Be it our personal life or professional or social, we all want it to be lively, charming and memorable. For companies with high attrition rate there’s a saying that people do not leave their company. They actually leave their boss. The human race is meant to live, being associated with other human beings. So every celebration calls for some things in common, which are food, people, music and gifts.

Types Of Gifts

With changing times, choice of gifts and its types have changed to a great extent. Earlier, all we could think of as gifts used to be jewelry for wedding, and school stationeries for birthday parties. But now the concept has changed totally and gradually getting more conceptualized. Now, gifts vouchers have been introduced by companies from different segment be it the apparel industry, the ornament industry, the FMCG industry etc. Also consolidated baskets have been introduced to make it easy for customers to choose, that is companies do the thinking for us and leave only the procuring part with us based on our affordability.  Fruit basket gift, is the one most chosen for occasions such as Diwali, Eid, Holi, Dushhera, Christmas etc. People have become health conscious now, and avoid the consumption of sweets. Fruits have therefore replaced sweets, as a gifting item, mostly because fruits have greater health benefits than that of sweets. Instead of going for jewelery, people now also buy gold and silver coins and bars for gifting purposes. For people close and near to us, we also go ahead with gifting them tickets for vacation, for a day out, or a dining voucher etc. So the entire concept of gifts has changed since our lives have become much more fast and competition has increased. People now earn not only to earn bread and butter, but also to earn comfort.

Corporate Gifts

Gifts had been introduced in offices or corporate mainly in the form of Rewards and Recognitions. Every company holds an annual rewards and recognition programme once in a year to reward their employees, and acknowledge their efforts in making the company successful. Previously, rewards in such programmes were limited to mementoes and medals, but that concept has changed to a great extent. Also, gifts are received by employees during festivals such as Diwali, Holi, Eid, Christmas etc. This has also further increased the revenue of Gift manufacturers; corporate gift manufacturing is a different segment for them. Corporate fruit baskets, which majorly consists of imported dry fruits, form a great source of revenue for companies selling it.
